The price of a PS3 is now $299.00. They were released back in 2006 at a hefty $599.00, but did offer something that no other console offered, Bluray. Since their release Sony was talking a loss on their PlayStation 3. They have for 4 long years suffered a loss, in terms of what it costs to produce, construct and ship their product compared to how much their PS3’s sold for. Have they really lost though? What the company has gained in game sales and their ability to put the product into consumers homes may in itself be close to priceless.
When a Sony representative was asked in an interview with IGN he stated about lowering the price of the PS3, “We have lots of great games coming out and innovations with Move and 3DTV, so we don’t believe this is the time for us to think about a price drop.”
I wonder if the lower price of the PS3 has been at has to do with Bluray players becoming less expensive.
