COD: Black Ops Dedicated Servers……For a Price

GameServers.com will be CHARGING for dedicated servers to play COD: Black Ops.  I just threw up in my mouth and realized…I HAVE A CHOICE.  There a a few things I can put up with in relation to gaming.  But as some of my friends have boycotted COD: MW2 because of $15 a pop DLC and no dedicated servers.

“We are extremely excited about this unprecedented relationship with Activision to offer dedicated servers exclusively for Black Ops”, said GameServers CEO David Aninowsky. “We are placing a great amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure that we exceed any and all expectations.”

I find myself contemplating the same with the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops.  After my inital rage and looking into the situation a bit more I feel I may have overacted a bit.  Here is another statement about the issuse of dedicated servers…

“Nobody will have to rent a dedicated server through GameServers in order to play the game,” says Olin. “But for anybody who wants to run their own server, it will be run from GameServers.com.”

Ok, now I’ve cooled down a bit.  This is basically how CS:Source works.  If you want your own server, for your clan and to run some modified content or be able to kick/ban gamers, it’s gonna cost you.  Similar idea here.  But to play on dedicated servers will not cost you any extra… thank God, I flew off the handle there for a minute : )

This is on my "to do" list as well. Although I won't be pre-ordering it like Halo: Reach. I want to make sure the multiplayer maps are not rat races like in MW2... But defantly looks like a keeper.
