If you’re getting a bit tired of the same old same old and want to find something to do with your time besides Halo Reach, or perhaps you don’t have a 360, then this may be just for you. Lord of the Rings Online is free for gamers in North America, (US & Canada). So what’s the catch? Well, during the time you are playing free you may only level up your character to a level of 50. After that time you will need to purchase an expansion that allows you access to quest packs, items and account services. Basically the full game.
Executive Producer of LOTR Online Kate Paiz states;
“Turbine’s innovative pricing model, first introduced last year with Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, has become a proven success with over two new million registrations since going free-to-play. We expect LOTRO’s free-to-play launch will only continue to increase the player base and catapult the game to new heights of success.”
And once again large corporations show very clearly how they could give a shit less about the game play or game experience and are focusing on users and their bottom line.
And surprise, surprise they are “suggesting” a monthly fee to gain full access to the LOTR Online experience.
Ohh God, I feel the need to play a session of Alien Swarm.
