COD: Black Ops, or BLOPS is the major news of the past week. And sure enough millions of gamers have already bought their copy of Blops. But what is the major impression from gamers about the latest COD game. Well, lets take a look at some interesting stats. First off, the picture above is from Metacritic, and shows how critics and users (or true gamers) rate the latest in entertainment. There is something that should stand out to you. 44 out of 45 “professional” critics rated Call of Duty: Black Ops positively. Where as when it comes to user reviews, only 64 out of 214 gamers rated BLOPS positively. WTF.
Here are some critics comments:
The story is the best I’ve ever seen from a Call of Duty game. Couple both of those substantial offerings with more Zombie content than some full-fledged zombie games and Black Ops is certainly worth your time.
A worthy addition to the franchise, despite its few kinks. The multiplayer is where the game shines the most, delivering an outstanding replay value.
Game Informer 90/100
It’s tough to hate on something as skillfully executed as Black Ops. Call of Duty remains the smoothest, most approachable first-person shooter out there, and I had a blast playing it. On the other hand, it’s disappointing that Treyarch’s much-hyped huge-budget entry in the franchise feels like Modern Warfare 2.5.
Edge Magazine 70/100
The campaign may not have the chops, but Black Ops repackages one of the best multiplayer shooters around. That’s clearly enough for millions of fans, but it makes it far from a must-have – you probably own the best bits already.
And here are some user reviews:
Who designed this? A monkey? The game is ugly, and uses horribly outdated sounds and visuals. It sounds like perfect dark for the n64. The maps are stupidly designed and failtastic. I have no idea why they even put a sniper rifle in. There is no quick-scoping and nowhere to snipe. Utterly DISGUSTING how obviously bribed the reviewers are.
Single player is horrible with same generic linear gameplay trying to tell a strory, but it falls in horrible ai and lazily scripted event with not even close ot enough triggers to make gameplay fluent and ai teammates to feel real. This is which breaks the flow of the game and cant really get into it no matter how hard i try.
So far so good! The graphics aren’t as good as Modern Warfare but the gameplay is definitely fun and very customizable!!!
So what is really going on here? Is it just that we as gamers are becoming more bitchy than every? Or are we truly spoiled by so many great shooters already out there our standards are too high? I’m not sure, but I’m thinking both. I also belive that many gamers/people just complain for the fun of it. Then go home and put in BLOPS in their console or load it up on their PC and enjoy the crap outta it.
Take a look at these stats from Steam. Although this only represents PC gaming, it might give a clearer understanding of what gamers really thing about COD: Black Ops.
So it seems that COD: Black Ops is the hot ticket right now. I wonder if this is just because the game is new, or because it truly rocks. Ohh, check out good old Counter-Strike from the year 2000, 69,629 peak users in a day, WOW. I wonder if any game that has come out in the last year will have this type of lasting multiplayer appeal after 10 YEARS. Doubt it.
