What is your flavor of gaming? Are you a single mother 150 pounds overweight and enjoy buying Wii fitness games and letting them collect dust in the corner. Or a 7 year old that likes Mario Kart?
Possibly you enjoy modding your PS3 and putting together rap videos about how cool you are and why Sony Sucks, even though you cannot picture your life without God of War 3.
Or you are in love with Master Chief from Halo and find it hard to believe that there are consoles out there that do not accept Halo’s Sweet CD goodness.
Or are you a gaming god, a legend among punks and know how to custom build a PC. And cannot for the life of you understand how someone can “aim” accurately with their thumbs? Gaming Legend, or PC gamer, I’ll let you decide.
So, basically Fanboyism is: The collective outlook and behavior of a group of people concerning a subject (movies, games, hardware, comic book characters, etc.) which when challenged results in an antagonistic, passionate, and unreasoned response.
Your Fanboyism may be out of control, but don’t worry there may be hope. If your love for a fellow brother in games is greater than your love for a multi-billion dollar corporation’s hardware concoction, then you may not be evil to the core.
I find it very possible to have an open mind with gaming. If you love Gears of War, Halo, Bill Gates and Microsoft and someone recommends a game for the Wii you think sounds gay. Give it a try; check out some info online about the game and why it appeals to other gamers. You never know, you might like it. Many times were too quick to judge something we don’t understand. So I ask the following…
Let’s embrace our fellow gamers, and rather than bash each other and fall victim to rampant Fanboyism, give another medium of gaming a chance and put aside the hate, after all, were all gamers, and that’s what really matters, isn’t it?
