Valve/Steam’s founder Gabe Newell took some time out of his busy day to speak to a group of high school students. The video is quite long but well worth listening to. Gabe sheds light on why Valve has been so successful in creating games, nurturing them and helping the game and community surrounding their games grow and maintain value long after an initial release date. He also talks about how being a private company, they have to answer only to themselves and gamers. Whereas a publicly traded company answers to banks, stockholders, investors, CEO’s and the like before their true customers, gamers. Anyway, it’s quite an interesting video, so check it out.
