This is why the PC Platform gets the Shaft

Recently there has been news that Crysis 2 and now Killzone 3 have been leaked on torrent sites before their official release.  Let me ask you this.  If you spent years pouring your heart and soul into creating a video game, have huge expectations for it, then find out that your game is being played…for FREE… by thousands of people before it was even fully polished or ready for the public, how would you feel?  Pissed, I would be friggin pissed.

Many times gamers, specifically PC gamers gripe and whine about why the PC is often overlooked.  Why do consoles get demos before the PC?  Why do consoles get updates and map packs before the PC?  And why does the PC has intrusive DRM to protect IP that is sure to be taken and redistributed to the masses for free?  This is exactally why.  These types of things are the reason the PC community gets the shaft.  And whose fault is it?  It’s our own fault, us shamefull PC Gamers.

With Crysis 2 and now Killzone 3 being live on torrent sites, many developers are forced to look down upon the PC community to some extent.  Now I realize that Killzone 3 will be for the PS3 only, but where is the torrent found…on the Internet accessed through a PC.

As long as gamers and pirates within the PC community sink to these new lows, developers will continue to implement DRM, as well the PC in general will become more and more phased out by many companies altogether due to these types of attitudes and actions with PC Gamers.

I am by no means saying I have never downloaded a PC game, movie or music for free, but the more I think about it, the more I find myself looking for good prices on games rather than looking for a free meal.  I may have changed my ways some, although I don’t think pirates are evil people, I am one.  I do believe we as gamers need to support the gaming industry if there is a game out there we want, and buy it.  If you don’t want the game enough to wait for the price to come down a bit, then move on, get another cheaper game and stop bitching.

So, let’s just be a little more conscious about our actions as gamers.  And realize that when we pirate a game we are hurting the industry we love.  Not to mention a newborn baby dies every time a game is pirated as well.

Agree completely with author. Anyone that takes issue with this post is ignorant of reality. piracy is hurting PC gaming more than any of you idiot noobs could comprehend. But hey, keep making excuses for your thievery.

Gotta love all the no - life PC trolls on here desperate to defend something which is clearly illegal. Let's face the facts here, there are no real gamers who use the PC as their main gaming platform. The only people who use the PC are pirates or middle - aged housewives who occasionally play games like World Of Warcraft or Farmville. All the real gamers play on consoles, dev's understand this and so make the consoles their priority. It's got nothing to do with corporate greed of whatever else you idiots want to use to disillusion yourselves with, it's because dev's want to market their games towards the real gamers first, not the housewives and pirates. If you don't like it then go out and buy a console like a normal person, bloody PC noobs must think this is still 1991 or something............

Did you seriously lump a console exclusive into a "PC Gaming is dying due to piracy!" article?

"Now I realize that Killzone 3 will be for the PS3 only, but where is the torrent found…on the Internet accessed through a PC." So, the PC gaming community is also responsible for: -Movie and music torrents -A large portion of drug and slave trafficking -Child pornography Fucking retard. Shitty biased article.

How many years you have? Your post have an absurd inconsistence. Your argument is destroyed by yourself here. Your argument with Killzone3 is that If some console game is distributed ilegally in internet, its guilty of PC gaming comunity. You are a PS3- teenager-fanboy-nobrain.

Honestly guys, stop it with the pirating is killing PC gaming logic. It hasn't killed it in the past and people have pirated long back even in the times of the Amiga. The real people whining are the big publishers. I loved Crysis 1 and losing the support of Crytek would suck. But despite the fact the original Crysis was pirated by a lot of people, 3 million copies were actually sold legitimately I hear. The millions who buy games are the target audience. Even if the big publishers decided to turn their backs on the millions of legitimate buyers. PC is still the home of innovation. Hello? Where can creative games like Minecraft or Amnesia or Trine sell tons? PC of course. Remember where Crytek, ID, Bethesda, Bioware..etc.made it first? On PC. Console games only sell tons for the big publishers after they spend tons on marketing and licensing.

Wow what a fool, blame PC for Killzone 3 leak because it must have been downloaded via a PC, blame PC for Call of Duty Black Ops leaks because Xbox leaks only happen because PC makes it possible. PCs make video games possible because they are all developed on that platform, there has been more "pre-zero-day" pirate releases of console games than PC titles, pirates have been playing Black Ops multiplayer beta for weeks before release.

Games actually sell very well on the PC, the author doesnt have a clue what he is talking about. The reason why PC gamers get shafted is because of corporate greed its an effort by these companies to get as many people on board consoles as possible. Having the base on consoles means people are completely at the mercy of the developers and console makers. With PC people actually have the freedom to MOD games make the games live longer and have an insane amount of BC. With console situation is completely opposite. The developer and console maker decide how the user will play the game and how long they will play. Previously before consoles got COD, PC gamers used to make custom maps to extend the life of the game obiviously this is in favor of the gamers, why would the developer like this? Now with consoles they can sell DLC after DLC with map packs for something that used to be free. In a word they can control the market, with PC they just couldnt Another example of being controlled: Microsoft pulling the plug on halo 2 online(the equivilent on PC would be counter strike, even if Valve wanted they couldnt pull the plug on that game because PC users would find a way around it). Next when a console gen ends, people go out buy a new console and are unable to play their old games unless they still have their old console plugged in (and its still functioning or they keep on rebuying the old console). With PC again its differnent People actually get to make huge libraries of games and they carry on to be playable for a very long time. Obviously developers dont like this, so they would like people to move to a platform where they can control the crowd. In the end PC games sell very well even today: Steam alone managed to sell 2million copies of Black ops up until end of 2010 add in the retail and rest of the DD network it will be a very good sell. BC2 on PC sold just as well on PC as on any console. Crysis sold 3.5m as of may 2010, which is as good as any console exclusive. Civilization 5 on pc sold better then any civilization game on console. Wow cata in a matter of weeks managed to top 5million units sold. Even indie games like Torchlight managed to approach 1 million mark on PC alone. Its not like PC sales bad its just developers trying to take control of the market by forcing people to go console.

It's an afterthought. Read whole article and you may have a clue what you are talking about.

Ohh, so are only Crytek employees downloading the torrent. Don't think so.

Ahh, now that just hurts. Crysis 2 being leaked for the PC is the main point here. Killzone 3 was an afterthought and really doesn't have much to do with PC piracy, although it originated from the PC. The point of the article is that PC game piracy hurts companies perception of the PC Gaming community, and that is entirely in our hands.
