Gabe Newell, founder of Valve/Steam was recently interviewed and the person interviewing him dropped a question that was quite interesting. Will there be a Counter Strike 2? This is something I have not pondered for quite a while now. CS: source is still the most popular multiplayer game played through steam, with around 160,000 gamers online at peak times (1.6 and Source).
It would probably be a great idea for Valve to come out with another Counter Strike game. The last one came out back in 2004 and has continued to be popular over the past 6 years. If Valve comes out with a follow up to CS: Source, I’m sure it will be amazing. They’ve had 7 years to think about it, not like some companies that churn out a new game in a series every year (Activision). There in it for the gamers and for the long haul, not just short term profits, and I love them for it.
