RAGE came out last week and what a laughable launch it was. PC Gamers were raging all over the internetz about the low frame-rates, screen tearing and obnoxious texture popping. Talk about a launch day fail. Luckily we were able to get a patch on a Saturday and drivers for our cards a day before that fixed all these issues. If they could have fixed these issues in a few days after launch, why not a few days before launch? Here is our QOTW (Question of the Week): Is a game launching as sloppy as RAGE acceptable?
Kyle: Well, I haven’t particularly covered the launch of RAGE in the past few weeks but I know exactly how bad sloppy launches are.
Gears of War 2 launch was horrific, lag, shotgun, die etc…
It’s not acceptable, you as a consumer, are buying a finished product. So when it doesn’t work, you are getting scammed.
Would you consider it fair to buy a new TV, only to be told that the volume will be patched in, in a few weeks? No.
Jose: Would I say no. a person pays for a product relying on the developer. What happened was a very big act of irresponsibility on the part of Bethesda. Although in this case is tolerated a little since they ”quickly” took control of the situation and released several patches to fix everything and turn RAGE into a really good game. Anyways, i’m still hating Bethesda.
Adam: No, no it is not. When they’ve spent more than 4 years working on RAGE launching it in an un-playable condition is not acceptable…on any platform. And for id to have the nerve to allow RAGE to launch on the one platform (PC) that gave them their shot in the industry is harsh.
I am glad however that id was right on top of the situation and within 2 days they had a patch and new drivers were out to let us actually play the game. And what a great game it is. My review is here if you wanna check it out.
