Top 5 Reasons PC Gaming Is Better than Console Gaming

PC gaming will always be superior to console gaming. The gaming industry is constantly pushing the limits of graphics, cpu and ram power, and the only machine that can keep up with industry demands is the PC.

Here are the Top 5 Reasons PC Gaming Is Better than Console Gaming:

5. Graphics

Drop a cold hard G ($1000) and you can get a PC video card so hardcore that you can recreate The Matrix. A more realistic video card option goes for about $200, and that’s still an amazing graphical experience.

Most consoles run at 720p which is 1280×720 resolution. It’s not even worth talking about console 1080p because it’s not worth the quest to find a game that runs at that resolution.

Even the most modest PC graphics card will pump out out at least 1920×1080 at 60 frames per second.

Let’s not neglect the screen size. PC Gaming tends to be on monitors less than 30″ while console gaming trend higher. This matters because it further degrades the console experience by spreading it’s low resolution over a larger area… like zooming in on a tiny jpg, you’re gonna have a bad time.

4. Control

Consoles have their controllers. Sometimes they have things like Kinect that uses your body motion for game control, which is a complete joke due to lag and shitty responsiveness.

PC Games have EVERYTHING. You can use an XBOX controller, you can use a kinect, you can even use a modded atari joystick old school.

Hell you can even use your brain as a controller with new tech like Emotiv.

While we have complete choice, we all know that any serious gamer is going to be using WASD on a keyboard and mouse due to it’s absolute movement precision allowing you to fully utilize your hardened elite gaming reflexes when shit goes bad in Splinter Cell.

If you’re using a controller on your PC, you’re not a PC Gamer… you’re a console gamer who’s mommy is using the TV.

3. Modding, Hacking, and Unofficial DLC

After you’ve spent a month on the latest console game, playing through every area, finding every secret… you’re done. There’s not much more joy to be had, and you can only wait for the next DLC to add a horse you can ride through the same levels or some crap.

The really interesting part are community graphic updates, like high resolution texture replacements and nudie skins (boobs are love).

Modders create utilities and hacks to make the game more enjoyable and easier to deal with the more mundane parts. Among the most interesting utilities are map viewers, map editors, and of course Cheats.

PC gaming has a very active borderline fanatic Modding community that will add every possible enhancement you can think of to the more popular games. New levels, unofficial bug fixes, pink unicorns, whatever you can envision… some hacker in his mom’s basement thought of it and made it.

2. Online Play

Multiplayer gaming, in it’s modern form, was born on the PC in the late 1980′s/early 1990′s. It has had over two decades of maturity which is far from anything I can say about the gamers screaming profanity into the headset of your XBOX live experience.

It’s almost a given that any PC game worth anything has multiplayer capabilities (Elder Scrolls I give a pass on because of its eliteness).

Of course, a huge part of PC online gaming is that… it’s FREE. Free as in: all you need is an internet connection worth its salt. There is no xbox live fees or extra cost for the online feature. FREE.

1. Custom Configurations and Adaptability

The most clear advantage PC gaming has over the console is: Custom Configurations and Adaptability.

You either bought your rig as a unit, or you bought components to build your custom gaming machine. Either way, you chose what components you wanted.

The best part is that you can upgrade pretty much any of your components to keep up with the latest FPS engine (cryEngine4 anyone?).

The ability to adapt and change with your environment is what allowed homo sapiens to become the dominant life on earth. The same is true for the Gaming Environment. The PC’s ability to adapt and change is the number one reason it will always beat a console.

The console is the Neanderthal of the gaming environment. It can’t adapt, by design it’s hardware is static. Sure, you can upgrade it’s OS and software, but you’re limited by the speed and components that software will run on.

The PC is your own gaming machine that you tailor fit to your level of eliteness.
The console will never be your machine. It will always be the box that tells you how to play the game.

If you say you’re a gamer, and you’re talking about consoles… it’s a delusion. You will never be an Elite Gamer(TM) on a console.

Can you come up with any other reasons why PC Gamers Are Elite and Console Gamers Suck?

I know everyone is talking about the price or a PC, but after looking at my xbox360's investment over the years, I think I paid more for that  than  my pc, because all the hardware breaks, and the $50 a year.

XBOX360:

console- $350

XBL- $50/year x5- $250                     (over the 5 years)

wireless controllers x3- $150           (I had to get 3 cuz they broke. remember, this is over 5 years)

wired controller- $30

microphone x7- $140                           (once again these break constantly)

PC:

Laptop- $600

wireless mouse x2- $40

the PC imo is a better experience, so I believe it was worth it. but, in Xbox's defence, it was over 5 years while my laptop was about 2 years

In my opinion, console gamers are the weak breed in the gaming world. Consoles will never have a fraction of the adaptability that the PC offers. People who complain about price really aren't seeing the clear and full picture. Good gaming rigs can be built custom for under $1,000 now, which is roughly 30-40% more than the PS3/XBOX360 cost during its initial release. Does that seem like a lot more? It may but not when you factor in additional gaming controllers, 3rd party hardware and a couple of brand new release titles. You will easily spend over $1,000 obtaining all the trinkets to game. A gaming PC investment will stay usable for several years and will cost far less than console in the months to follow. With amazing platforms like Steam, you can buy games for a fraction of the cost than any store shelf and most online stores. I have roughly $3,000 worth of Steam games and my actual paid value is most likely less than a third of that. That's not something easily done on console with brand new titles.

VIDEO GAMES ARE FUN. SHUT UP AND PLAY THEM. Console wars are annoying, everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. I wish people would just choose their preference and shut the hell up with their biased arguments.

too bad mmo games suck shit and bore the shit out of me instantly with their story less and card board action nor is rts any better if I want strategy any console or chess board will suit things fine....graphics mean little to someone having fun...I love gaming on pc or console just I don't have to deal with shitty ass counterparts or peers on a console....pfft pc games just can't find any fun in the idea that to play an mmo I'll need the assistance of others for everything instead of a console where i set a game to the hardest difficulty and then use my brain to over come the challenge alone and without others....sorry just ranting just mmos- poor community - poor entertainment - if I have to play with others I'll stick to a console where I am not bogged down by crappy details such as you need to be this class to play with us or need to pay this subscription to play with us - now games that xbox and pc both have pffft as long as I can play and beat the game...that is all that will ever matter - Matrix Gaming Center Employee

Let's not forget the costs. I bought by PS3 used for $200. Ever tried to play a ps3 equivalent game on a $200 PC or even $300? As you said, you are going to spend that much on the graphic card alone. YHow much does an decent gaming PC setup cost on average especially if you aren't the type of person that is going to build it by yourself. Also goes to your #1 point about adaptibility. At some point over the life of a PC you are eventually replace most of the vital components with new ones to keep using it if you don't want to buy a new one. I don't see this as vitally different than buying the next generations console in terms of cost or application.

A better title for your article would have mentioned the elitest nature of the article. By your definition I am not an elite gamer but clicked on this article thinking I would find reason's why I would want to invest my time and energy in building a gaming PC because of thoughtfully logical arguments. None that info in your article was given other than the graphics are a little better. Everything else is personal biased info whose sole purpose it to make tell us all why PC gamers are better than everyone else. The last time I bought into this type of garbage I purchased a laser disc player. What a waste of time and money.

I take offense to the PC gamers don't use controllers. I have a nice rig that I built and I love mods, and higher resolutions etc, but I like to play my modded higher resolution games with a 360 controller (yes even FPS).

I like both pc gaming and console gaming, and I must say that I actually agree with almost everything, even if it is a litle bit exagerated. For instance, playng a racing game, whatever racing game it is, it totally sucks to play with the WASD, or even use the mouse to steer like some strange games do. I prefer a controller (gamepad with the analogic things) in that case. There also are games like DMC4 (and others) that really suck with the keyboard. Other then that, I agree with you.

Why is it PC elitists always act like they have something to prove? They try so hard to convince everyone that they're cool, guys, seriously they're cool and everyone else is doing it wrong. Maybe they should spend more time actually gaming. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

And MMO's you missed out a MASSIVE selling point of the pc! Console gamers suck because they never really understand or learn to atleast appreciate the technology behind the system. You look at how many gamers build their own computers, it's not because we're nerdy it's because we love our computers to bits, most of us appreciate our computers because they enable us to enjoy the hobby we enjoy.

Let's not forget that PC gaming has server browsers, dedicated servers and non of that P2P bullshit (decent non console ports anyway), "Can we fix it? Yes we can!" - You do that to your precious X360, and you void a 8 year warranty!

If all your time is spent on console gaming (or browser based gaming), then I would definitely assert that you are not an elite gamer.  You would, by definition, be a casual couch gamer.

You'll take note that "Cost" is not in the list, so you're 100% on the money here.  With that said, cost is an excuse why we settle for a sub-par gaming experience, not a reason consoles are better.

The mere fact that you can keep up with the latest trends by upgrading a component rather than buying a new system is a huge benefit for PC gaming.

Not to mention a new console comes out, what, once every five years?  With your logic, I'd be stuck with an old piece of crap for at least four years (assuming obsolescence in one year which is generous).

Have you seen my other articles?  I only write from an elitist perspective... so, by all means, feel free to assume that.

The precision and responsiveness of using a mouse and keyboard is so much greater than a controller that it's hard to take a PC Gamer who uses a controller seriously.

If your a PC Gamer, then you are in the elitist segment of the gaming scene by definition.

games are games, to have fun and take you out of reality for a few mins, hours a day, so relax because 99.9% of gamers have a life and obviously if you have to justify why this or that pc/ console is better you need to rethink your life and take a breath of fresh air
