Ouya, a new prototype console game system just hit kickstarter and is already fully funded as of today.
Ouya (pronounced like booya) is based on the Android OS with many amenities of a modern day gaming rig, such as:
- Tegra3 quad-core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB of internal flash storage
- HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth LE 4.0
- USB 2.0 (one)
It’s headline feature is that it’s 100% open source focused on high quality indie games with all games in developer hands without having to pay a corporate overlord.
Developer friendly and explicitly hacker friendly, they want this console to belong to us, not the Weyland-Yutani Corp.
It’s got a sleek controller with a touch screen built in so it’s compatible with all existing games on the Android markets.
This could be the first step to an OASIS console, my friends.
Very exciting, especially at its price point of $99.
