I expected this to happen, but not exactly the way it did. Capcom’s Devil May Cry is getting turned into a movie, but its being made by the people who made the Resident Evil movies. Which doesn’t bode well, I think…. This is a weird situation, for me anyways. Because on one hand Devil May Cry was never one for its “Shakespearian” story telling elements, its a series focused more on the kick-ass action rather than the plot. Which Screen Gems could probably do, but on the other hand its not like it didn’t have a serious story in it right? I mean being the half-demon son of a legendary demon hunter while taking inspiration from Dante Alighieri‘s Divine Comedy, does give it some merit in terms of story.
I dunno, my money says that it’ll bomb, its the fate of most video game movies. But I’m especially concerned though about Devil May Cry because, well, the series is kinda in the middle of a civil war because of the newest title being developed by Ninja Theory. Which I’ll be honest, I’m not too happy about myself, but I’ll say more on that later. For now lets just hope that either they get some real talented people behind this, so far only the writer Kyle Ward has been named attached to the movie. And he hasn’t done much save the screenplay for Kane & Lynch, which hasn’t even been put into production as yet. So its anyone’s guess at this point.
