Games to keep you busy in September

Now that the novelty of Guild Wars 2 has worn off (what the hell am I talking about, it’s just gearing up!) and you need something else to play, here is the list of games coming out the rest of this month.  Some of them you probably already know about if you are a fan of the series or publisher and some you may not have heard about yet.  So get ready to spend your hard earned cash to have some fun.

Releasing September 13:

Empire Total War (Gold Edition) – This new edition to the series will bring 3D naval combat into the game for the first time making the turn-based campaign with a rich historical flavor that much more enticing.  The Gold Edition combines Total War and Napolean War together in one package.

Releasing September 18:

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition – A resurgence of an RPG classic will bring you back to the Forgotten Realms world.  The game is redone with the Infinity Engine and several other improvements with the technology out now.  The Enhanced Edition includes the entire Baldur’s Gate adventure as well as the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack. For the first time, players can experience never-before-seen content including a new adventure and a new party member added just for this remake.

Jet Set Radio – A downloadable game which brings a Dreamcast console game to PC.  The official Sega website says you “Fight for control of Tokyo-to, mark your turf with graffiti, tag walls, billboards, and even rival gang members! Perform tricks and flips on magnetically driven in-line skates, but watch out for the local police force!”  This newest version has 29 of the original 30 tracks off the Dreamcast version.

F1 2012 – This racing game features all the stars, cars and circuits from the 2012 FIA Formula One World championship.  Includes split-screen, co-op championships, and you can play against 16 players plus an addition 8 AI online to simulate the full 24 cars which actually race Formula One.

Borderlands 2 – This sequel to the highly popular Action RPG game set in the fictional world of Pandora.  Five years have passed since the events in the original game and a new enemy is taking credit for the Eridian Vault, claiming all the loot for himself.  The new characters, similar to the old but just different enough to make them not carbon copies, must defeat Handsome Jack before he ruins Pandora.  Definitely, a game which much be played just to see if you can find the Guinness World Record number of guns the game offers, all 17.75 million of them.

Releasing September 20:

Torchlight II – Another Action RPG game where the dungeons generate randomly.  Similar to its predecessor but with a longer campaign and overland areas to explore.

Releasing September 21:

Anna – A first person horror adventure set in a place, which truly exists in Italy, an old sawmill that is between Champoluc and Periasc in the Val D’Ayas.  The main character has puzzles to sold and must deal with the inhabitants of the surrounding buildings.  The location can change, revealing different secrets, depending on the mental state of the character.  These changes also lead to three possible endings.

Releasing September 25:

Disney Princess: My Fairytale Adventure – This children’s game has the player helping Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Belle and Tiana with their magic wand to break the spell that was cast over the land.  The player will be an apprentice to the Fairy Godmother.

FIFA Soccer 13 – A new game in this soccer series (football to the rest of the world) which has five game-changing innovations that revolutionize artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control and physical play.  See how you stack up against other players.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 – Another soccer game but definitely not identical.  Pro Evolution, which is called PES by its fans, will feature: ProActive AI, an enhanced goalkeeper, Knuckleball freekicks, full hand-control, upgraded defense, and narrow and wide flanks.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes – A bit of a twist on the classic adventure game because, even though you play as Sherlock Holmes, there is one case in which Holmes himself is the main suspect.  The official site claims “it has all the ingredients of a great investigation: examination of crimes scenes, collection of clues and evidence, pursuing leads, questioning witnesses and suspects, reasoning and deduction work… These fundamental actions make up the heart of the game.”

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria – The fourth expansion for this MMORPG which will raise the level cap to 90 for gamers.  It will also introduce a new character class (Monk) and a new playable race (Pandaren).  This expansion will significantly change the existing 41-point talent trees with a new tiered system where talents are awarded every 15 levels.

Releasing September 27:

Bad Piggies – Rovio finally switches bad characters from Angry Birds and give the pigs a chance to shine.  There are no birds in this puzzle game.  Instead the pigs are stranded on an island and must build ways to get to those delectable eggs they coveted in the Angry Bird series.

I have been a gamer for over 20 years and a writer for longer than that. I was a gamer before it was "ok" for girls to play games. My preference is RPG's over everything else but I also like fighting games, action, adventure, sims, platform, puzzle, and casual games.
