JollyGrim, a card-based RTS and RPG, began its closed beta today. The fairy tale-based game from GameSamba, is available for anyone who wants to register for the beta testing. You just need to sign up at the website or one of the partner websites that have the codes.
This fantasy world game has players enroll as students in the JollyGrimAcademy where they will wage battles against other players and NPCs with the cards they collect. However, JollyGrim is different from other computer-style card games; the battles take place in real time not turns. The game combines the card collecting with a real-time strategy game and tactical role-playing for an interesting twist.
Cards are considered “units” on your battlefield that have Attack and Defend stats on all four sides. This makes your position and fighting strategy very important in the game. Each card also has Health points and a cool down period, so players have to learn block and defense. What sounds the most interesting is that the cards feature characters from fairy talks, myths and legends, and some which are original for JollyGrim as well.
JollyGrim is a free-to-play game that combines single player gaming with online multiplayer mode. The game is story-based, to give players a chance to improve their skills and build their decks, but the multiplayer is where real action happens. This includes several play modes: 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Players can also unlock additional features, strategies, and bonuses by leveling up.
