Well it’s been less than a month since the WinterFest event in Guild Wars 2 finished and ArenaNet is unmasking Flame & Frost: Prelude. This is another multi-stage event that will bring changes to the world of Tyria, again. If there’s one thing they know how to do, it’s keep the gameplay fresh and the gamers on their toes with these events.
Starting on January 28 the lands of the Charr and norn will be ravaged by tornadoes and earthquakes. Refugees from both areas will flee their homes in the Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau to the south where they hope to find salvation. So, volunteers will be needed to assist these poor souls when the very world has become their biggest enemy.
For one week only, January 28 through February 4, the regular eight team/three-round paid tournaments will be replaced with two-team/single-round in the Temple of the Silent Storm map. Once that week is over it be part of the regular rotation for both free and paid tournaments.
Do you need a reason to explore the current world? For those who have been quest oriented, or those who just like to explore, new daily achievements will be added to the daily ones you can get. Not only will there be different achievements for every day of the week but also a new achievement tracker in the UI will help you track your progress each day. On top of that, new laurel achievements will reward gamers for the daily and monthly achievements they earn. These laurels will be redeemable for rewards such as the new Ascended gear and Infusions. And of course the Gem Store has new items to go with the new year.
However, what might be the best part that this new event brings with it a chance for friends on different worlds, but in the same region, to play together without changing their home world. This feature is called Guesting and will be free, although later a gem fee to transfer home worlds will be charged so get where you want to stay now if you don’t want to pay for it.
ArenaNet has said this is just the tip of the iceberg and reading it, I believe it. Who knows what changes this phenomenon will bring to rock the rest of Tyria. We can only wait to find out but in the meantime, get ready for some new adventures in Guild Wars 2.
