Guinness World Records 2013 Gamers Edition Review

Guinness World Records 2013 Gamers Edition Review

As of today, you can go to any bookstore or your online bookstore and purchase the Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer’s Edition.  This truly awesome book about everything gaming where records can, and are broken, is packed with all kinds of interesting facts, including many you probably never thought about.

gaming-records5_1807651iIf you think this book just has a list of records gamers have done that no one else has or broken one set by someone previously, well you are wrong.  The 2013 Gamers Edition does list those things, especially at the end of the book where it goes through each platform, what record was set, when, by whom, and the name of the game.  It also gives you an overview of each gaming genre listed, including how to spot that type of game.  Some of these are quite funny to read and many are spot on.  There are several different “battles” throughout the book of characters from a featured game versus another character from a similar game.

MA_Minecraft_Wedding_The_Goodness-275-thumbFeatures, which give you some gaming news you probably didn’t know, split many of the sections up nicely.  One such feature is the guy who has the biggest Mario collection in the world (he’s in the US too).  There are quotes from developers, pictures of famous people playing games (and a few comments about some who became so addicted they had to stop), even a section of gaming weddings.

What I really liked about the Guinness World Record 2013 Gamers Edition book though was that it has records that date back fairly far.  I thought it would all be about games released in 2012.  Nope.  In fact, most of them weren’t even released then but prior to that year.  Plus for those who want to attempt to break a record, or create one, there is a two-page spread which tells you just how to do it so that you can be in a future copy of the book.

This is definitely a book all gamers should at least read but owning is better because reading it once through is not enough.  Even the gaming genres you might not like will intrigue you with what people will do.  So head out to your local bookstore and pick up your copy now.

I have been a gamer for over 20 years and a writer for longer than that. I was a gamer before it was "ok" for girls to play games. My preference is RPG's over everything else but I also like fighting games, action, adventure, sims, platform, puzzle, and casual games.
