American McGee revels in the Grimm

When you hear Grimm Fairy Tales you think of Red Riding Hood defeating the Big Bad Wolf or Cinderella getting the prince in the end.  You know the “Happily Ever After” part of the tales.  While they have their place, the true fairy tales are not so nice, and American McGee along with Spicy Horse, have 23 episodes for you to find out how dark.

In American McGee’s Grimm, you are a dwarf named Grimm (ironic huh?) who is changing those sweet and innocent fairy tales you remember as a child and turning them back into the dark tales they actually began as.  In fact, Grimm uses moves like a butt-stomp to spread darkness every place he visits.  He doesn’t have it easy though, the good creatures of these fairy tales try to keep them sweet and nice.  However, after the dark-o-meter reaches a certain level, those goody goodies can no longer do anything to change the world back.  In some cases, the stories end up darker than they originally were, and Grimm is fine with that.

All 23 episodes are available for purchase at Spicy Horse.  They are $1.30 per episode, $8 for the volumes of multiple episodes (two volumes of 8 episodes each with the final including the last 7), or $20 for all 23 at once.  Each episode is takes about 30 minutes to complete so for a small price you can have 12 hours of fun.  While the game has the same protagonist, each episode is a standalone adventure so you can complete them in any order you choose.

I have been a gamer for over 20 years and a writer for longer than that. I was a gamer before it was "ok" for girls to play games. My preference is RPG's over everything else but I also like fighting games, action, adventure, sims, platform, puzzle, and casual games.

I was wondering if they'd ever make these available again. Played them back when Gametap wasn't lame.
